About

Lesley JohnsenI founded Source Acupuncture Center in 2009 after graduating from the Master’s Degree program in Five-Element acupuncture at the Tai Sophia Institute in Columbia, Maryland. My mission at Source Acupuncture Center is to promote wellness through collaborative partnership between patients and practitioners.

My practice encompasses and includes close partnership between various synergistic modalities such as acupuncture, dietary and lifestlye counseling, herbal medicine, massage therapy, and naturopathic as well as allopathic medicine.

What does that mean? Simply put, you are in charge of your own wellness and I am here to partner you on that journey.  Not to dictate and not to do it for you, but to empower you in your physical health and personal development.

My background involves a six-year contract in the Air Force, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology.  I completed training and licensure in Massage Therapy and moved to Baltimore in 2005 where I subsequently finished a Master’s Degree in Applied Healing Arts (Transformational Leadership and Social Change), also at the Tai Sophia Institute.  My focus in this program was centered on restoring wellness thorough practices of creativity, stillness, and the cultivation of community and ritual in daily life.

I am a member of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, the American Pregnancy Association and the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. I am committed to continuing both my personal transformation and acupuncture education through a variety of different local and national workshops and conferences.

I am especially interested in working with individuals with emotional concerns such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and addictions.  I view these issues as more than their manifestations in a person; I want to truly get to the root cause of emotional upset or imbalance.  It’s rarely about just one issue, and taking a “whole-person” approach allows me to work with my clients to better understand their own patterns and come to their own truths about their personal goals and well-being.  Healing follows this partnership.
